Docetaxel Micelle / Indication : Cancer

Docetaxel (generic name), an anticancer drug classified into taxane group, is widely used for the treatment of a variety of cancers such as breast, non-small cell lung, uterus, ovarian and prostatic cancer. Docetaxel combines with microtubules, the component of the cytoskeleton, interferes with the cell division, and thus leads the cells to death.

Docetaxel causes toxicities such as edema, myelo-suppression, gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea and vomiting), alopecia, liver dysfunction, hypersensitivity and fatigue, which are burdens for patients.

Docetaxel micelle, a type of chemical bonding micelle, controls appropriately the release speed of docetaxel entrapped in micelles thus reduces its toxicities with maintaining efficacy.
